Oh wow I got it!

This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the break down of the game. I will post a picture, that I choose, resized to exactly 800 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have there "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be it positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the a game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After # 16.)

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on February 1st, 2008 @ 10:00pm central

Well I really liked the fog in the background so tried to focus alittle more on that. I hope this isn't too dark on some monitors.
- Duplicated layer
-Added Contrast and darkened it a bit
-Duplicated layer again (original) added monday morning filter
-added alittle bit of blue

I liked the setting of this shot, and I found the lighting challenging. It seemed like early morning to me, so I wanted to add some emphasis to the sun. Here's my interpretation:

1) Straightened horizon 1/2 degree left
2) Mutiplied original layer 50%
3) Bumped contrast slightly
4) Converted to duotone via color mask
5) Added morning sun with lens flare, positioned sun behind tree
6) Softened image slightly
7) Added border with color matching duotone layer

I adjusted the curves, hue/saturation, a cooling photo filter, a high pass sharpening layer with the layer settings on soft light then brought down the opacity on that layer.

I used a layer with soft light settings to burn down some of the back ground trees and slightly brighten the trees in the foreground. I also did a slight surface blur and did a mask on that layer. With that I specifically painted the water to smooth it out. Finally I had a layer that I used smart sharpen.

Thought this could use the help of HDR.

1. Opened up the jpg in CS3 bridge. Made 5 copies, -3, -1, 0, +1, +3 exposures and saved them.
2. Opened up photomatix and imported the 5 jpegs. Tone mapped them. Adjusted the temperature, saturation, white & black points, luminance. Saved this HDR file.
3. Opened the HDR file in CS3. Adjusted the sharpness using USM 15, 15, 0 and 65, 1,
4. Added a free boarder I found on another site.

Sorry for the watermark. I am still evaluating photomatix and not purchased it yet, hence the watermark.

Well this is what I came up with.
Started out by adjusting the levels. Next I went & desaturated the image, but kept the reds and yellows intact. Later I adjusted the saturation, did a high pass converted to overlay. Brought up the sharpness. Duplicated layer & played around with the exposures to create a snow effect. I brought up contrast merged all layers.

The goal is not to change your subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer.

Didnt crop, you can play with format size and stuff, i didnt do it.
'Levels', played around i 'selective color' slice copy and flip vertical. levels again to bring detail forward.
I went for a more harsh edge graphic style thingy. fun fun fun!

Well, not nearly as cool as some of these on here (azsteve - love your take), but here's my version:

Leveled it a tad.
Cropped.
Played with contrast and saturation. Down with red - up with green to highlight the mass of roots up front.
Some burning in here and there.
Added a frame.
I think that's it.
