Check out sigma's newest walk around lens:

18-125 with image stabilization said to be 4 stops capable and HSM (like USM) for very fast focusing.

this is funny because I was just looking at all the 17/18~55/200 lenses last night and thinking what would be ideal. The 18-200s are too long for what I need, but I'd also like IS and more than 55 as the long end....

Then look what pops up today. This lens and a 350D might make for my perfect P&S...
It just needs to cost <$200.

It's too bad they couldn't keep it an f3.5 at 18mm (it is an f3.8 ). I don't think I'll be trading in my 18-200 OS for it, but the HSM/FTM is a nice added feature (along with the smaller size). Nice addition overall. But I think they would have really "scored" big time with a 17-50 F2.8 EX DC OS HSM.

Hah. Nobody would buy one for that much. I'd say less than $500.

He did say "MSRP". But "street" price needs to be around the $400-$450 mark I think.

I loved my Sigma 18-125mm when I had it...it was just a bit too slow. With OS and HSM, though, it could be the perfect travel lens. Less of a compromise than the 18-200, and smaller and lighter to boot, so I really may look at getting this to have another super light travel setup. Sweet.

Every lens choice is a compromise of some sort. The new 18-125 OS compromises vis-a-vis the 18-200 OS as well. It adds HSM but lacks the extra 75mm, which I shoot at (200mm) all the time. The 18-200 OS is "faster" at the wide end and the same at 125mm (f5.6). The 18-200 OS is sharp at 200mm f6.3 (sharper than the 70-200 f2.8 IS at 200mm from f2.8-f5, center of frame). In fact I rarely shoot other than wide open with my 18-200 OS. At 18mm the 11x zoom is extremely good too. It has its optical quirks here and there (at certain FLs), but I don't notice them much in practical usage. And this is partially why the 18-200 OS remains the best all-in-one zoom for APS-C.

Example at 200mm wide open http://www.pbase.com …s/image/92124892/original (external link)

I just want to know when they are going to ad HSM to their 24-70 2.8 ex. My tamrons slow focus is starting to bug me.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

Yes. They could use a Mark II version of their 24-70 EX and redesign it to a 77mm lens with HSM...and OS. :D

Boy LightRules, you sure can make a guy feel good about his Sigma 18-200 OS! Quick question for you, how do you feel the AF speed compares between it and some of your other zooms? Obviously the 70-200/2.8 L should be faster, but how much of a difference do you feel it is?
