That's true. But losing AF at the long end (I don't have a 1-series camera) would be annoying, and I guess it comes down to size and weight too. The biggest thing is whether or not it can rival or beat the 100-400 IS in terms of IQ.

The Bigma is f6.3 at the long end too, you still can A-focus with non 1-series bodies because Bigma reports as a f5.6 lens to the body.

Same reasoning, I think you still can AF with the new 150-500 at the long end.??

I am looking forward to Sigma's 120-400. It's a bit lighter than the 150-500, uses 77mm filters (nice!), and can do a respectable minimum focus distance of 1.5m (nice!!!). And it also is a twist-type zoom (I'm more used to it, and less dust pumping) and has newer generation stabilization than the current Canon lens.

The lens reports it as f/5.6 (even though it's really f/6.3), which allows retention of focus ability on non 1-series bodies.

im going to keep my 100-400, its great for what i bought it for.
Plus, its a white lens :p

but anyway, i wont exchange or buy a sigma telezoom to replace my 1-4, its toooo goood.
But if canon makes a new 1-4, i am sure to upgrade.

Why is Sigma making more interesting lenses than Canon? Two super zooms? Wow.

Any release dates on these? If the 150-500 has nice IQ at the long end, I may cancel my 100-400 order(which is still waiting for amazon to get some in stock).

Is the 150-500 a pump action or twist? Thx.

Canon's been watching Nikon. Sigma came up and bit them in the arse.

It's a twister.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I don't think there is any question about it. People love superzooms. One release is always amazing...but two? I'm shocked.

It's a twister.

Thx.

There is no doubt that this new 150-500 HSM OS (wow that's nice to finally be able to say) will be a top-choice for these kinds of safari treks. I can see good ole' Davey chap (condyk) getting one.

Agreeing with wot Simon says ... and the MFD is cool. Both are lookin' interesting tho'. I just sold my awesome 400mm L to a lucky punter in bonny scotland in anticipation of a 300mm 2.8L IS for my next Afreeeka trip, but I will hold on a while now and see what the great unwashed say about these offerings once they have been around a while.

A lot depends on pricing/performance ratio at way less than a 1/3 the 300mm price I guess I can stand losing 5-10% of IQ ;-)a shame that 120-400 isn't a 4.0 but 5.6 is more than Ok for sunny sky's shootin'.

Agree with ya sLightMoves that the combo of OS/HSM is the big news. We can now look forward to a fullsome reveal of new hot models.

Looks also like this will prompt a new 100-400 IS L from our fiends at Canon .... expect the market to flood with them ol' 1 stop offerings and SH prices to plummet. Y'all been warned now. Sell while ya can ;-)a I can see ol' Ed at the zoo with his trusty/clunky IS L and small children pointing and laughing :lol:;)

Interesting looking lenses, hopefully these are yet more additions to Sigma's tradition of great telephoto zooms. None are of interest to me as f/5.6 is simply too slow for my requirements. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bigma staying in production and this lens (150-500mm) replacing the venerable 170-500mm Sigma instead.

I agree . I think it replace the 170-500mm. I have my doubts that they are EX lens.

But I voted for the 150-500mm.

The pricing for the 150-500 will be interesting. Anyone know when these will be on the shelves?

The 100mm at the long end is more useful to me than the missing 40mm at the wide end. I would love the long telephoto, I only moved from the Bigma to the Canon 1/4 for 2 reasons, 1) due to the IS and 2) the Canon was easier to operate when zoomed.

Sounds like Sigma has addressed my concern 1) and I have to see about 2).
