I agree . I think it replace the 170-500mm. I have my doubts that they are EX lens.

But I voted for the 150-500mm.

+1. I'll wait for reviews, and if the optics are close to the 100-400, I'll be swapping for the extra 100mm. Though faster would be better.

Very difficult to say until I've seen some tests.

I've been seriously looking the 100-400L for a while now and very close to buying it. I'm very tempted by the Sigmas but call me shallow I've not got a white lens yet and was looking forward to the 1-4L being my first.

Another thing to consider now there is some serious competition could Canon be pressured to release an update to the old timer?
It wouldn't make the current 1-4L a bad lens overnight but it's making me think about waiting.
To be honest after using a 100-400 the only thing I think they could improve on is putting in a newer IS unit. I like the push-pull zoom, the IQ is very good and a constant f/4 aperture that many talk about would take it into a completely different price bracket, not good business sense as Canon would lose many sales to your regular Joe who can't or doesn't want to spend thousands on a lens. Come on Canon just put a 4th gen IS in there and bang it out the door :D

The 150-500 sounds great to me! Unless Canon can come out with a serious upgrade to the 100-400, I'll be looking hard at the 150-500.

The 150-500 will be at f5.6 at 400mm. I'm fairly sure about that (like the Bigma is). So it's no slower at the long end of things; you just get another 100mm at the cost of 1/3 stop.

This is precisely why the 150-500 appeals to me more than the 120-400. The 100mm extra length for 1/3 stop is awesome. A 1.4x TC on the 120-400 will give you 560, but at 2/3 stop slower than the 150-500, but it also loses AF on non- 1 series bodies.

I had a hard enough time with the three initially mentioned. Now Sigma has two that has HSM and OS. Shoot...price will determine what I want. Although the 500 is more what I'd lean to.

Definitely have to see these in person though before purchase to get a feel for size.

I think a poll option should be, "I don't know what to do! Get them all?"

LOL, I agree. Very hard. If they had positioned the 120-400 to have more range, it would be cool. They should replace their old 80-400 OS with this newest version, thereby keeping the same range.

Price is the real question on the 150-500.

The next question I have is when will Sigma integrate OS into the 120-300 f/2.8 ? Also, the Sigma 100-400 now seems like the black sheep in the family, as these lens provide overlap, and better spec's overall. Wonder if that lens is slated for retirement?

They must retire the 80-400mm, this just got replaced big time,
the 120-300mm has to be coming,. now that we see SIGMA moving from "OS Experiments" to "OS Implementation" it will be a mater of time. Given this new set of releases keep in mind, SIGMA is now moving faster with there version of IS than Noink ever did,. how long did the poor Noinkonians have to wait for Noink to finally put there VR onto there serious primes? Like forever and a day!

Anyway, apperently SIGMA has our POTN Memo on there future Road map :)
OS 120-300mm 100-300mm f/4 and 300-800mm have to be right around the corner.
There putting it in there most likely biggest sellers first (just as they should)

I am looking forward to Sigma's 120-400. It's a bit lighter than the 150-500, uses 77mm filters (nice!), and can do a respectable minimum focus distance of 1.5m (nice!!!). And it also is a twist-type zoom (I'm more used to it, and less dust pumping) and has newer generation stabilization than the current Canon lens.

You raise an interesting point here,..
Your push pull fear and dust pump mythology aside, the Canon is one of the oldest designs in the EF line up, it has 1st gen IS, and slow AF compared to more modern USM designs.
There is a distinct possibility that this latest tech SIGMA will actually outclass the 100-400 Canon in IS/OS, AND AF performance! The IQ will be harder to quantify, but that's always been up for grabs.

Why is Sigma making more interesting lenses than Canon? Two super zooms? Wow.

This is nothing new for SIGMA, they've been innovation leaders in lens design, particularly in long zooms for years now.
They have zoom designs that are 4-6 years old now that have yet to be copied or equaled by anyone else.

Canon's been watching Nikon.

As above, if anything Noinks been watching SIGMA, just as Canon should be.

Man, and I thought I'd have to buy a canon lens to. So much for the 100-400L but still, Sigma lacks in primes. While the 30 is on my list, Canon still has the 85 and 17-55 USM IS.

Sigma just needs to make their 18-50 macro have HSM + OS! That would be a killer lens and would compete with the 17-55. IQ is already very close, and the Sigma comes with a hood/case and is lighter/smaller.

Damn, and I JUST BOUGHT a 100-400 Canon...
Ah well, if Sigma brings out a 120-300 f2.8 OS I might just have to pick one up at some point.

Interesting looking lenses, hopefully these are yet more additions to Sigma's tradition of great telephoto zooms. None are of interest to me as f/5.6 is simply too slow for my requirements. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bigma staying in production and this lens (150-500mm) replacing the venerable 170-500mm Sigma instead.

If you look at the picture of the new 150-500, it is almost an exact replica of the Bigma DG (includ tripod mount style), not the 170-500 (which has a totally different look). I'm about 99% sure that it is the Bigma replacement. And that it's an EX. Just an early ommission in label.
