Ok this may sound corny but I want to do a little light wrinting for Valentines day for the wife. So I have a laser pointer, small aperaure on the camera, ISO 100 (I guess) and remote trigger to lock the shutter.

Now should I use black cloth as my makeshift chalkboard?

How would you focus it? Do I focus on the background?

I swear I've done this before but I can't remember hor I did it. ARGH!

Any other tips or suggestions?

Well the L lens would cause a big divorce. Nowever you get an "A" for effort.

Now should I use black cloth as my makeshift chalkboard? It's a red pointer, right? I'm not sure how well that would show up on a black background?

How would you focus it? Do I focus on the background? Focus on the background.

Get your focus on the wall or whatever with the lights on. Surface does not need to be black. Try F8 for apeture. ISO can even be higher I'd go with 400 to capture the light from the laser better. Then lock the shutter and see what you get.

Move the pointer? That's much simpler! To think all these years I have been pointing at a fixed light source and moving the camera!;)

Just kidding

At least I get instant feedback now - with Slide film I had to wait until it was developed to make sure my camera movements were correct!
