This may sound like the understatement of the century, but "Y'all agree that the 18-55 IS version is much better than the non IS then?"...
I need to upgrade my old -tried and true, though awfully beat- 18-55 kit lens, thing is I am pretty short on money, for something more ambitious (even then, I remember sigma's 24-70 2.8 was not the sharpest lens), and definitely not even remotely close to the L game. (I like Shooting wide, and I am topping at about $200).
I reckon besides the IS gain, I will also encounter some other improvements?... (I know, for this post I could end up being a little mouse caught in the trap of the title fairy's attic... Damn Cheese!!)
