Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

This may sound like the understatement of the century, but "Y'all agree that the 18-55 IS version is much better than the non IS then?"...

I need to upgrade my old -tried and true, though awfully beat- 18-55 kit lens, thing is I am pretty short on money, for something more ambitious (even then, I remember sigma's 24-70 2.8 was not the sharpest lens), and definitely not even remotely close to the L game. (I like Shooting wide, and I am topping at about $200).

I reckon besides the IS gain, I will also encounter some other improvements?... (I know, for this post I could end up being a little mouse caught in the trap of the title fairy's attic... Damn Cheese!!)

The IS isn't very helpful, but the IQ is. The IQ of the IS version is much better.

Stopped down to about f/8 or so, sharpness is just as good as the $1000 17-55 IS. Wide open it's MEH, but it's still not bad at all, to me at least. Still much better than the non-IS.

I just upgraded from the non-IS to the one with IS. Couldn't be happier! I got it lightly used on here for very cheap. Looks and works brand new. Keep your eye out on here for one under $100 don't spend the $190 they want for a new one.

Yeah!!... Checked locally, and this guy 30 miles from me bought a T2i a couple of weeks ago, and with it he got a 17-85 IS. He did not even -literally- bother to take the 18-55 IS kit lens out of the box. Today we met, and I had the pleasure to actually open the lens for the first time!... Beautiful.

Took a couple of test shots -just because I could, I supposse- and was very happy, and on my way back home. Now to do some more of my own testing (feel like I need some of my own confirmation of the better IQ and IS advantages) and then it's off to go take photos. Thanks for the good advice !!.

Oh, you probably wonder what I paid for it. $90 cash. Not too bad, huh?

Not too bad at all! I think I got mine for $80 but a little used. I got a cheap UV filter too tho! haha

This is probably the cheapest Canon lens but by no means cheap in performance.
