With today being the last day for the Canon Canada rebates, I bit the bullet and purchased the 70-200 f4L USM. Let me tell you - this thing is ultra fast and ultra silent!!!

I've read 1000 posts or more about the USM motors, but until you've witnessed it yourself you haven't lived :)

Don't have any ducks around here since the cold Ontario weather has most of our lakes frozen solid. Took some standard pictures of the new lens (with my new Tamron 17-50 f2.8) and the other ones are with the new lens. The last one is a full 100% crop - tack sharp???? I think so?!?!?!

Congrat's on your new lens. The Canon 70-200 f/4 L and 17-40 f/4 L are the most common first L purchases I've witness during my time on this site. They mark the Canon L models that are generally bought first. They are excellent lenses, and really ignite a fire that is really hard to put out. Once you go L, it sure is hard to go back.

Enjoy the lens.

There is no Exif, how much did you sharpen this PP?

First of all, can you provide information on how to include EXIF information?

I used Photoshop only and changed white balance to 'flash' setting only. No other PP'ing at all...

It doesn't have Exif because you put it through Photoshop, that is how I knew it was edited...just not how much. The lens seems to be preforming beautifully! I get mine tomorrow...so stoked.

Nice lens, have been looking at that one also. BTW, just for those of you that think you missed the rebate, you didn't. Canon has extented it until Feb 17, according to my wife, unless she lying to me just so I'll buy the lens.

Suggestions welcome.

I have teh Tamron too, and the -200, they're a great combo. You will rarely miss the 50-70mm gap..but then you have a 28-80 :p

Right... It's so nice to get a new lens...I remember when I got my 300mm... It was awesome! At first I didn't believe it, then I touched it and slept with it about 2 weeks before I dared to take it out... Nowdays it is just another boring weight in my gear bag... Now I'm dreaming about EF 85mm f/1.2 L II USM... :(

Congrats! USM is indeed great! Just curious, does it come with the lens bag? Don't see it there, but my 2.8 IS comes with one, although I don't use it. :P

Rellik,

Yes, it comes with the LP1224 Lens bag - looks a little bit large for this lens - obviously it is a multi-purpose bag that can be used with a variety of telephoto lenses. I'm not sure if I'll use it other than for long distance travelling storage.
