XTi price drop

I've been in the market for a dSLR for quite some time, looking mostly at the XTi. Up to the release of the XSi the XTi has dropped in price pretty significantly. Do you guys think that it will drop further in April once the XSi starts shipping. Historically, did this happen with the XT when the XTi came out or does it take some time? Budget is pretty tight so if waiting a couple months could get me a cheaper XTi with more money for lenses and other goodies I could definitely wait. Thanks a lot for any opinions.

It will definitely drop further. Look for a bunch of people to sell their used XTi's when the XSi comes out. More used XTi's on the market = better price for you. If you can wait until then, then wait.

Do you think new prices on Amazon, B&H, etc. will drop as well in April?

I really can't see the XTi body dropping below about $450 come April.
The XT body is still selling for $400 as of today. It appears that Canon will keep the XT as a "current" model at least until this summer.

Probably only by $50 or so at the most. As mentioned above, the XT is still out, and they cant just give the XT away.

Ok, I was under the impression that Canon would discontinue the XT in April but it makes sense that they keep it around for a few months longer. Thanks a lot for your help.

I would not count on to many people dumping their XTI's .
The XSi uses sd cards which means the CF cards won't work in it . The largest SD cards I have seen were 2 gigs , but since My ZR85 is only a 1 meg in picture mode 2 gigs is enough .I haven't really checked on them . You jump to 12 and you cut down numbers of pictures on a card . I have 2 - 16 gig + 8's , 4's CF's etc .
I didn't even consider the 40 D when it came out . My money is going into better glass for a year or so .
The thing that will get me to upgrade is when the burst rate goes up . The camera will use CF cards , EFS lenses , maybe a selector for UV/infer-red pictures . [All that for less than 1000 and I'll order now .]
To me unless you can count on a drop of at least 20% , there isn't a reason to wait . Saving the money to buy is one thing , but waiting to save 50 or 60 dollars is a waste of time unless you can't afford it - " if I save to 500 I can buy in April . "
I put my XTI on a 0% for 9 months CC [at Circuit City - I wanted to say this is broke to a person without pressing 1 first if I had problems .] .

r morales you can find 4 gig sd cards. I don't think sd cards are going to be a deal breaker for the xsi. I use them in my 1series camera and have never had a prob.

Canon "Snappy".... Thanks Mom and Dad!

must not have been looking too hard...here's a 16GB at newegg.com they've got 8/4's as well...I think they made the switch to SD because thats where they think the future memory cards are going to be...just my opinion though

off topic slightly but I think its a good call going to SD. They're smaller and lighter to carry. and take up less space in the camera. I've never had a problem with SD cards (in other types of devices). and their cheaper.

The question is: "How much money would you like to spend on it?"
You know many times when we're planning to buy something and the prices are changing so fast we just have no idea what would be acceptable price for us and then we are unable to set any budget. The question is whether +/- 30 bucks would be a huge deal for you. If you're real photography enthusiast, then you just simply cannot wait longer. Right now, when you use B&H coupon, you can have XTi for 499.95. The deal is, that you have still 2 months until April comes and XSi will be released so you can take many many awesome pictures by then and maybe price of XTi won't be much lower then if ever.

So my recommendation would be to go for XTi for 499.95 right now and HERE (external link) is the link for you ;-)a

Good Luck

Thanks , nice to know . My godchild has the ZR 85 [HE LIKES THE 800 ZOOM] and uses in school to copy black board and lectures .
I get it back when on a trip and the 2 gig is big enough for the few pictures I take with it .
It doesn't focus as fast as the XTI , but I can tell who's coming .

Thanks a lot for that tip. That sounds like a great deal. Now I just have to muster up the courage, and money, to make this happen.
