Looking at getting a 40D and a few other bits from Digital Rev delivered to the UK. Any recent experiences out there good or bad?

cheers
Ali

I've spent around £2,500 with DR (from eBay in Hong Kong to the UK) and had very good service from them. I bid on one lens in a BIN auction and then found it cheaper elsewhere within the hour. DR were happy to cancel the transaction with no penalty to either side. My bids were on "No Tax" auctions and I did get hit by customs duty, I emailed a photo of the invoice to DR and they credited my Paypal account with the full amount within 24 hours.

I was quite happy buying Canon lenses from HK because they have a worldwide Canon warranty, but the bodies only have a Canon warranty for the source locale, so if anything does go wrong that could make support a bit less smooth as you will have to deal initially with DR UK who may then have to deal with DR and Canon in HK. If you're actually in France then that could add extra aggro or delay to any warranty issues.

UR-Galaxy (on eBay) are also good too. For both suppliers I recommend you only bid on the "No Tax" auctions unless you're feeling lucky or purchasing under £18 in value including postage costs. Also look at Onestop-Digital (not eBay), who have generally good prices and "No Tax" guarantees on all their products. Digital_Rev are the only HK supplier I know with support based in the UK though.

i would avoid UR-galaxy. had two buys off them and both problematic. their attitude is very much they don't care once a sale is made and they get aggressive if you make a complaint. Any problem and they retort with a negative on ebay. i have one negative in 300+ transactions and that was from them despite me paying correctly, etc. I left neutral and that was their retaliation!

Kea are very good on eBay too, just check they are no VAT sales, and then Kerso sends lenses, etc from the Uk at good prices.

I did have a problem with an order from UR-Galaxy. They overlooked my request to include an optional lens hood with my 10-22. This did take a bit of sorting out but I was able to talk with the owner - Hugo - by phone (Just 1p per minute to his shop and mobile at the time, I think. Now 3p per minute but still much cheaper than talking to Sky in the UK!)and we had a few emails back and forth and it all got sorted out. There was no hint or threat of getting negged.

I'm uneasy about doing business with an organisation outside the UK legal system - if anything goes wrong you will struggle to get satisfaction, and the hassle factor would be a nightmare. Plus customs issues, waiting in for couriers etc .

I'm a Kerso or Warehouse Express kind of buyer, and to be honest if I can get Jessops to make a sensible price-match offer, I'd rather buy from brick & mortar
