yep, completely different beast. The nikons are also additive batteries - it's a replacement for your existing battery but additional power.

No Daniel they don't. You get more shots providing you put two batteries in, but it certainly does not increase the frame rate in any way.

Only the D300 works that way. Previous ones didnt. It requires not only the battery grip but a totally different battery also. Im not sure but Id bet it probably has a little bit more voltage on it.

if i remember correctly, the d300 usually shoots at 2.5fps and the battery grip bumps it up to like 8fps or something.

not entirely true. the D300 shoots at 6.5 to 8 fps when in 12-bit mode (the latter with the grip and battery combo). switch to 14-bit and it crawls to a lowly 2.5 fps. :( the 40D will shoot 6.5 all day at 14-bit. :) .. well, at least until the buffer fills up. :D

its simply a Custom Function you change in the menus. not having a 40D or a D300, i could not tell you which CF# it is. perhaps somebody else could. :)

On the 20D, you can't. This is available in the 40D, the 1D 3 and 1Ds 3 only ATM.

Yes, on the D300, it's a menu option between 12-bit (default) and 14-bit. But on the 40D, it's fixed at 14-bit and can't be changed to 12-bit.

Just get the 40D and enjoy a glorious 6.5fps.

6.5 frames is nice, but almost noobish lol. I get great shots at 5 frames, the 40D is not that great of an upgrade from the 20. Same autofocus system, body, and all that is not included is 2 more megs that barely make a difference, spot metering, and a bigger screen.

Thanks,
