Just had to tell the "WORLD" what a wonderful day this has been.

But let me start from the beginning.

January 1988, my parents divorced after 25yrs of marriage and went their separate ways. Neither of them remarried or entered into other relationships. They simply - fell "out" of love ??? I was still in High School and it was a real shock to my school and community as my family were quite popular and "such the perfect family"

My father remained in Auckland while my mother and younger brother moved to Christchurch to be closer to her grandkids, myself and older bro (both Military).

Last year (Dec), we shouted mum a trip to Auckland for her birthday to catch up with friends and family before she retires. To celebrate her 'belated' birthday, we dined out on her return and she announced she'd "fallen in love" whilst tripping around in Auckland.

All us kids thought the worst and were gettin ready to read her the riot act when she said "it's your father" :)

Dad resigned from his job, sold up pretty much everything he owned and moved into mum's today!

My wife of 11yrs met him for the first time today! Ashamedly, that's how long it's been since I've seen him.

We chatted, laughed, cried, sang, hugged, - wow...twenty years is a hell-of-a-lot of catchin up!

Anyway I thought I'd share an off-topic subject with everyone here and if you're parents are close by, give them a call huh? :)

Thanks Becca & Marie. My wife and I are headin around there shortly. Take them for a walk around Christchurch. Dad hasn't been here since ---- actually FOREVER! So we'll go and show him the sights, walk along the beach, maybe talk about a 2nd wedding ;)

I've mentioned in other threads that I'll be cutting back on weddings - well - might have to re-nag :)

Great place and history.

Yeah - but no transfers - Dad was Senior NCO Burnham Camp until he retired. You will even find his name on the MSM medal list... Brother was Assistant Director Dental Services in Wellington when he retired. I left there in 1969... :D I went back last March - just showing the Aussie Bride some places from my childhood - the camp is all fenced now - it was so open and inviting when I was there.

Best of luck to your parents and great news to you guys.

I will definitely have a look (could you PM his/yr surname pse).

I started a small project on Bunham's history with a Warrant Officer but it was never completed by the time I left 2004.

Even though it's barracaded like fort knox, I still manage to drive on thru the gates as if I was still in the army.

There's a hardback documenting Burnham called March Past by Storey and Millar. Great read if you're into that sort of thing.

Regards and thanks John.

That's fantastic! Great to hear of a good news story from back home. :)

My own parents seperated early 1995, and my mum has been remarried, and in another relationship a long time. 8 months ago she moved to Melbourne with her partner.
Last week, my dad (who I live with in Auckland), said he's just let out my room - despite the fact I'm due home in a couple of weeks (but only for a holiday) - he said "I think you may know her".... "it's your Mum". :o
They've always remained in contact due to myself and my younger sisters. Not quite the same, as I know they won't be falling in love for each other. Just good friends.

Good luck with the complete family again :)
