I'm unsure what's uglier; bugly EMD locomotive in Armour Yeller or that god-awful looking Amtrak station.

Maybe the shot is a combination made in hell... :p

If I send you some Lark Grey and Scarlet Red, would you be willing to "adjust" the loco paint scheme?

Nice shot with a great blue sky!

Gear: Kodak Brownie and homemade pin-hole cameras. Burlap sack for a bag.

The 'station' is really just a shelter. There's no enclosed waiting room or onsite ticket agents. I'm not even sure why they bothered, although it does provide shade for lizards and the like.

For me, their is a lot of power in this photo, in the way the yellow on the platform carries over to the engines.

Thanks, Harold.

This is the opposite of the shot I posted a couple weeks ago. The photo posted in this thread was taken with a 20mm lens, and it's only two locomotives. The one I posted before was shot with the 600, and has 12 locomotives in it. (reposted...I can't find where I posted it before)

I think that the locomotive against the "station" shows us the reference :) So .. was the station open today? Looks like this train was headed East.

That second shot is wild looking... How many Locos? 12???

Those were sitting in the station siding. There was no train per se. These were two helper units, probably waiting for a westbound train that might need their help to get over Beaumont Pass.

I've never seen the station 'open.' I'm not sure if there's anything there. There are a couple doors that might go into storage areas, and there's a rollup door that might be covering vending machines, but I've never seen them open, and I've been in that station all times of the day and night.

The second shot does have 12 locomotives. That was taken just a couple miles east of Cabazon.

I actually have sent people off and picked people up from that station.. it is a bit dismal. I am surprised that you have not see anyone getting off/on trains there. I believe it might be once or twice per week. I miss train travel and it would be so useful for LA/PS or AZ/PS but it is tough to get a cab from there. I never noticed, is there a telephone?

"Edit" Is that a small squirrel directing the train in #1? :/

The palm Springs station is on the Sunset limited route.

Hopefully this will help you find a time when there is a train there. Most of those stops are of a rather short duration.

Thanks, Wayne. I've seen the Sunset Limited in there a couple times, and it's usually very late, especially westbound. Amtrak still hasn't figured out how to make trains run on time.

Hard to tell on my monitor, but is that sand or snow covering the ballast in #1
