I shoot primarily with 5D and 1DMarkIIN bodies.
Actually I just sold my 5D and one of my 1D2n's.

Anyways yesterday I helped my buddy who shoots Nikon do a wedding. He asked me to shoot with his gear for this wedding for some odd reason. So I agreed.

The day of the wedding he asked me to shoot with one of his D200's. I told him that I don't think I have enough experience using Nikon systems to second shoot a wedding, and I brought my gear as usual just in case he changes his mind. Anyways he knew I could do it so he gave me one of his wedding bags and I set up a rig containing D200 + SB800 + 17-55 DX i think? I don't remember what the lens was exactly but I think that's it. Also I had a 50mm 85mm and 105mm 70-200VR in the bag. I took advantage of all the Nikon toys I had at my disposal. :)

I must say... I've used the D200 and D2X many times before but never to the extent that I did at a wedding where the images were important and not redo-able. WOW that D200 was pretty SIMPLE to use compared to my 5D and pro canon bodies!! He didn't even have to show me how to make any adjustments. I took a few seconds during the ceremony to look at the camera and I basically figured it out in less than 15 minutes. And the images were looking pretty nice on the back of the display!

Only thing that sucks is the grip, it must be horrid because my right thumb is KILLING ME! I know the D200 can't be heavier than my monster 1d2N's!

I don't know what to do!

Also I must be dam good if I someone can trust me to capture great images during a wedding with a camera system I am not familiar with!!

I'm sure you are a wonderful photographer but it really dosent take a genius to shoot with a Nikon if you have experience with any other system. Its not rocket science after all. If you can afford to make the switch and like what the Nikon does for you no reason not to go ahead and pull the trigger. Nikon makes a very capable camera.

Excellent. Some cameras are just better for certain kinds of shooter. I would certainly switch if I were you, especially if simple is something you need.;)

If you don't know what to do: STOP, don't do anything about it for a while. Think about it, mull over it, have a drink, relax, use your very good Canon equipment if you have any left. Once the strong urge to switch lessens, then think about it again.

BTW, the above stopped me from buying a 40D the past couple of months. My XTi is doing fine!

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.

Canon T4i (2 lenses), Fuji X100s, Olympus OM-D EM-1 (3 lenses)

Has it occurred to you that the reason you could use the Nikon so easily relates more to your basic knowledge of camera systems in general? how hard would your friend have found it to use your gear, for instance?

Nikon does have a reputation for having more straight forward controls and better ergonomics, but those who criticise Canon for the reverse are usually Noinkers, or magazine writers who shoot Oly's or Sony's or such like!

Unless you have specific problems with your gear as you use it, why switch? The only possible reason to switch IMO is to get hold of a D3 for the ISO performance. But how long will it be before Canon exceeds that little benchmark?

If you feel the Nikon is better for you then you shouldn't hesitate to switch.

Ignoring all the tongue-in-cheek humor, that really is the best answer.

You wouldn't be the first person to switch...either way. (we actually have some former Noink shooters here).
