Don't forget the shrine to Bart Simpson. :) And another shot of the Georgia building.

Here is a shot taken in 1981 at nearly the same scene by another famous Vancouver street photographer. I noticed the similarity of the views and looked for this picture. If you look at the row of rocks beneath the trees at the shore they are the same rocks. I also carefully looked at the buildings in the "fire shot" and they line up.

In May 2007 the Vancouver Art Gallery had an exhibit by the very talented Fred Herzog. It was titled Vancouver Photographs and contains some amazing images that he took on slide film in Vancouver for over 30 years. I scanned this image from the catalog of the exhibit.

here is the link to the exhibit last year

http://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca …tions/exhibit_herzog.html (external link)

The image was titled "Fire English Bay 1981"

ps to Flo, the reason for my web name is because we get to Gabriola Island several times a year..

That is such a fabulous comparison photo..... I will have to look up Fred's photos now.

Just read your added comment.I LOVE Gabriola! Get over there as often as I can..there is a huge eagles nest off the 4th hole at the golf course, want to get there when the birds start gathering. We actually seriously thought about buying the White Hart pub!

Would be interesting for those who are out and about to re=-create some of his works...I know that alot of the businesses are not there, but to see the landscape as now?

Cool thread. Here's a couple...

Not really 'street' photography, but they were taken on the streets downtown, lol.

"Re-photography" -- re-doing the old city streets. I find it very interesting though I likely don't have the patience.

I wonder how much Hastings will change in the next 5 or 6 years. Some of the buildings from woodwards east have been closed up for decades now. It makes me wonder why the city hasn't even addressed it.
