Ok I have currently a 400d with battery grip,I have seen a 20D relatively cheap, was thinkin of purchasing for it to be a backup to 400d.

Question is is it worth having? Am I gaining anything with the 20D that I would notice?

Thanks

I'd use the 400d as a backup to the 20d.

dammed if you do, dammed if you don't...

you can see I have a 350 and a 20D...

much prefer the ergonomics of the 20D, however on trips sometimes take the 350 because it is smaller and lighter..

what you will miss with the 20D is the larger LCD that the 400 has but not much else
unless you are a pixel peeper or print large prints you will not notice the difference in picture quality

I would think the 400D + grip would become the backup. The 20D just handles so much nicer than the 350D and 400D IMO. It feels so much better in my hands. Plus, since I shoot all manual, the secondary dial on the back is huge to me (as opposed to the 350D and 400D's Av button).

The 400D has a higher resolution... IMO that's about it. The larger LCD is nice too but I don't mind the small LCD on my 20D.

1) RTFM.
2) Repeat Step 1.

Just to voice what everyone has already said, I would use the 400d as a backup to the 20d. Having used both I really prefer the 20d to the 400d

Yep - you don't backup a Rebel with a higher quality product. I don't have a 300ZX in the garage in case my Taurus breaks down. In all seriousness, the 20D is just a much better shooting experience in most cases - higher megapixel count is almost a non-issue for most shooting and printing needs.

If you can get a great deal on a used 20D - I would be all over it and let the Rebel hang out in the bag.

I'd do the same thing.

I've just got my 20D (last week) and the step up is awesome. My 300d is now definitely the backup camera. It is streets ahead.

Depends on what you're shooting, but in most respects the 20D is a better camera than the 400D despite being older and having fewer megapixels.
