For head and shoulders portraits (full frame or cropped) which do people feel is the best?
I know this is subjective but it would be nice to know if there was a bias towards one or the other.

In every other way, I prefer the 85L and the ability to open up wider than f2. Canon 5D MKIII/Canon 5D MKII/ 70-200 F2.8 IS L / 24-70 F2.8L / 85 F1.2L II/ 35 f1.4L / 135 F2.0L / Canon 600 EX-RT X 2

It has faster focusing and seems a tad sharper on my setup. Its really very subjective because the 85L is outstanding too. You will not be disappointed with either lens, but the 135L is significantly cheaper

JeffreyG wrote in post #4850283 The 85L has a very long MFD and small maximum magnification. You will find yourself bumping into the MFD on tight crops. This is why (on FF) it's 85L for portraits and 135L for tight crops. I agree the 85L has a longer MFD than the 1.8 version but it's only 4 inches difference. Surely the 85L would be fine for tight crops on a APS-C camera?
