Hi all,
I am 'hoping' a FF body pops up by the first week of August. Frankly, I LOVE everything about my 20D except it's not Full Frame and doesn't have sensor self clean. I'm a very 'generalist' shooter and some imaging is really helped with a 1.6x Crop factor. On the other hand I also enjoy working the wide shots when the scene is 'asking' for that. 1.6x kind of blows me down a bit on that front.
Does anyone have an idea when the next Generation FF or an upgrade is going to poke around? I'll probably be getting the older 5D then to maximize dollars for lenses.

Thanks everyone,
Richard

It will be about 1 3/4 months until a new one is released.

The latest "guess" is August for the upgrade to the 5D. There was a lot of speculation that one would be announced at the show, PMA, that was just in Vegas but nothing happened so August seems to be the next best bet!

But, who really knows when anything will be announced? Canon doesn't want us to know anything before the actual announcement.

I had a 20D and loved it until I sold it last fall. I bought the 40D and absolutely love it but the 20D will always be special to me.

Photokina is the third week of September. Any announcement would probably come 5 days (or so) before the trade show starts.

Of course, any camera announced in September will ship after September and will likely cost significantly more than the current 5D's retailing at... and despite being an "old" model it still takes fantastic photos - is it worth the 8-odd months of waiting and not shooting with it?

Hi All,
I guess I didn't phrase my post starting this thread well. Confidentially, it's NOT the first time doing that for me! To better describe things, I have a shoe string budget and with a little luck I can chase a used DS mk one or shop worn 5d down when a signifigant Full Frame announcement turns up and owners might push more older bodies onto the market to help fund upgrades. With luck, it'll push the prevailing sale prices to within my reach. Personally, I view the bodies as wonderful light tight boxes that you use to make magic happen with your Lenses, your Craft, and your Creativity. :-)
ALSO! I'm shooting the family reunion group shot in mid august and would like more resolution and a better field of view that will allow a 50mm lens to get the job done (maybe). Otherwise I'll have to get a good wide lens or aps-c zoom. I would like to stay away from ef-s to keep all options open for when I can make the addition of Full Frame happen.
Thanks
Richard
