Hi. I have an S3 IS and am interested in Macro. I have the Canon close up lens 500D,which gives me a field of view of about 1 and 1/4 inches from about 18 inches away. I would like to get more magnification than this ,can anyone suggest the best lenses to do it? Thanks.

From pics I've seen on all the other forums, this is the setup!

Hi. The "lenses" are really not lenses but rather macro filters.
Indeed the Raynox 250 is a nice choice. Raynox also has a set of three lenses (which I have noted in other posts of mine) which are quite nice as well. The three are the +6D, +12D and +24D.
I'd like to remind you that with every increase in diopter, you lose some significant depth of field. I didn't appreciate this statement until I tried to get a picture of a flat stamp with the +24. It is almost impossible to get a good pic from that filter, IMHO.
I mostly use the +6, and sometimes the +12. The build of the raynox is excellent, but the size is 36mm and hence you must add your zoom to bypass vignetting. Sometimes that adds to the picture, sometimes not. I am considering getting the 500d 58mm just for the size and +6.

my 2 cents

Actually they are lenses. They're supplemental lenses the same as add-on teleconverters or wide angle converters are.

Get an idea of what a given lens will do for/to you by looking at how it changes your greatest focus distance. A Canon 500 will let you focus at 500 mm/19" max. Lenses rated in diopters focus at 1/diopter so a +6 will focus at 1/6 meter or around 7"

Hi. The 500D is good. You can get about the same image area as is practically possible with super macro, but the lens is up to 18 inches away from the subject. So you don't get in your own light, can use the flash and don't get the barrelling you get with super macro.Hope this helps.DM.
