Neat effect, but next time I'd go with a smaller aperture. Get more of it in focus.

Yeah,
I know that the photo is not as good as it could have been.

I had, without realizing it, gone outside with an almost full flash card (only 4 shots left) in the camera and by the time I went in to get an empty one and got back to the pond the sun had rised over the trees. I took more photos of the ice, but with the bright light, I could not capture the same look of the ice pattern.

Amazing shot. Those ice formations at the front look like swords.


Photographers do it in 1/1,000th of a second...but the memory lasts forever! ;)

Ice does some amazing things... I think this sort of thing happens when the temp is just right... usually during a slow freeze before it is too thick. Notice how there are no air bubbles/frosty white ice.

What an interesting pattern it made! The leaf in the center of the shot is pleasant to look at as well.

Thanks for the kind comments. I wish that I had gotten a better photo of it. I had never seen that particular ice pattern before on the pond.
