I just called my State Farm agent to get a quote on insurance for all my stuff....I'm leaving in a few days to Mexico and wanted to get some coverage.

$4000 worth of coverage for $40 a year with a $0 dollar deductible!!

She said this will cover Everything...lst, stolen dropped, broken, crazy diving ducks.... She really said that! Of course we're friends so she was being goofy.

How can you Not afford to insure yor camera gear for that price.......

The hardest part is keeping the gear list up to date with the insurance company and changing the amount of coverage as your gear list evolves, assuming you have the same disease as the rest of us! Keep all the receipts in a safe place too.

No.. Seperate policy.
If I added it there would be a deductible and it would only cover theft.
Yeah, I figure the list of goodies would be difficult because I'm always selling and buying camera stuff.

If something did happen, do they usually replace with new or used?

Dropped? Really? Wow, for $3 a month that's pretty nice peace of mind.

Yeah, I specifically asked about dropped because my wife sometimes uses the camera...and...well.....
She also said if I happened to drop the camera or a lens in the ocean on my trip its covered....:D

Its really a good policy from what she said.

I might have to drop my "70-200f2.8IS"(oh wait, I don't have that) and then it rolls into the drainage gutter and I can't find it....But go ahead and buy me a new one! ...lol

I am looking to insure my gear as well.
I was wondering what the policy was for used items?
What if you bought stuff used and don't have receipts or you have receipts but under the original owners name?

Do you need to have a home owner's policy with them in order to get coverage?

I don't have receipts for a lot of my stuff....some used some new.
All I had to do was make a list of my gear with the estimated value and they insure off of that.

So i guess the question is, do I have to have home owner's insurance with State Farm in order to get equipment coverage?

No, you don't. Just walk into a State Farm office and ask about a Personal Articles Policy. Bring details about your equipment, including receipts if possible.

I actually kind of like having it separate from my homeowner's policy. If I end up needing to make a claim on one, I don't have to worry about it affecting rates for the other.

There's a separate rider you apply for that's a part of your homeowners or renters insurance. That way it's covered separately, with no deductible, and expands the type of coverage to "all risk".

Totally worth it to do. You got a really good rate. I think I'm paying $25 a year for about $1500 worth of equipment. But I've got to bump it up since adding a couple L lenses and soon 5d

OK, looks like it is a separate insurance. Personal Items Insurance.
I will definitely get this sooner rather than later. I've got around $10k worth of gear sitting around at home.

Do you guys also insure other stuff like TV, Watches, musical instruments, etc?
