I have paid a lot extra on my house contents insurance to be bullet proof, including camera equipment out of the house up to a certain amount.

The fact they are not interested in logging what I have plus serial numbers, just says to me its a great get out if ever I may need to rely on them.

I think I'm going to be looking elsewhere.

What company?
I think they are covering themselves....

I have a rider on my homeowners policy as well. I have always considered a seperate policy, and now I know it's reasonable. Thanks guys.

As for proof of what you have, I have yet to do it, but you should keep photos or a video of everything you have that is covered.
What I do have, is a list of all items, as well as the seriel numbers. Which reminds me, I need to update that too!

"Prudential", underwritten by Churchill, one of the mentioned companies on the documentary I watched.

I guess they're all different in the way they run things.
I know that when I had a streetbike, most insurance companies were sky high because they figured you would wreck and die in a few months..... My progressive rate was $117 a month so I call State Farm and they wrote it as a recreational vehicle and it was $18 a month!

State Farm seems to be a great company

My agent said this will cover it with my travels so you shouldn't have a problem....

And why do live two different places? Better yet HOW do you do that!? I can barely afford to live in one place:lol: I always wondered about the Toronto/Hong Kong for your location....

Can you tell me which channel that was on and when exactly you watched it?

Sounds like something I should watch and if it was on BBC I can probably get it up on the iPlayer thing...

My home contents/buildings insurer Egg is also of the "don't want any details, just a total amount" type so wanted to know if they are mentioned in the documentary...

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards,

Anton

Yep, mine covers it anywhere in the world....in fact I asked specically about China as I travel there once or twice a year with all my gear and was assured it was covered...Thus, the..."even if it gets run over by a bus in Shanghai" quote:)

Haha I always wondered if that would confuse anyone. My family and the company I own and run are in Hong Kong, and I'm there in the warmer months; I study philosophy at the University of Toronto, so during the colder months I am there. What sucks is, I get the worst of both worlds in terms of weather.

I haven't decided which one my 'full time' life is yet, lol, as of now it's both, so Toronto/Hong Kong it is :D

I'm wondering if I would have a problem if I Did drop my 70-200 in the ocean, getting it replaced. I don't have the receipt or the box for it....

"Scams, Fiddles and Honest Claims"
(2/15) part of the cutting edge documentary

Edit: Norwich Union was the main company mentioned.

Just seems poor in my opinion that when people are genuine and want to provide this info that these companies are not interested.

It is a great policy for serious hobby equipment, but if you are a business, it will be different. Serial numbers and dollar values from a camera store typically will cover second owner issues.

I called Gieco (my auto insurance and yes I did save by switching.. saved $1000 a year)
and asked them about insurance for my gear.
I got a separate insurance plan that covers EVERYTHING I own upto $5000 for $80 a year.
I didnt have to provide a list since it covers everything.

The only thing it doesnt cover is if im using the gear for work.
So if im on a paid gig and something happends no coverage. I would need a different policy for that.

Covers theif and damage in and out of the home.
