Yeah, camera insurance is a no brainer. I pay about $70 a year for nearly $6,000 in coverage, zero deductible. Why everyone doesn't have it I will never know.

For one I think most people don't really think about it.... and if they do, they figure its gonna be pretty expensive. I was sure it would be at least $20-30 a month which would still not be bad considering how much you could lose at one time due to theft. Gear-list!

Zero deductible and covers pretty much everything. The only catch is I have to give them serial numbers for each item. Not a big deal, but it does require a phone call/update when I buy or sell gear.

Feb 08, 2008 06:34 | #53 I also have a policy with State Farm. I insured my equipment when I bought it so I was able to furnish receipts for everything including memory cards and rocket blower. They did ask if it was for work but that meant using the camera to make money and I think that might be a different policy. I use mine for work but to record progress and problems on construction projects so to State Farm that is just a personal articles policy. I don't know if there is a difference in policy price but I assume so. Joe

Of course taking inventory of your entire home takes time initially, but once you have the majority of it done, keeping up with it is very easy and time friendly. It's what I use, and I know to the penny, what everything in my house to worth, and have pictures of everything inside this program.

Gonna be calling them today to give them the list and get the policy 'live' asap (also State Farm.) The prices they quoted were right on the mark with what others here have been seeing, and the coverage is definitely very good. To me the biggest thing was what the payout would be. Namely, full replacement value vs. depreciated cost, and State Farm fit the bill nicely on this one. 40D - 24-70 f/2.8L - 70-200 f/2.8L IS - 50 f/1.8 II - 580EX II - 486RC2/055MF3

That was the original plan they gave me too. Seems a tad strange that they're changing that mid-stride. Cost per $1k on my quote came out to about $20 (original quote was $4500 coverage for $86.40/year, and lets just say my kit has issues with growth prevention, hehe.) 40D - 24-70 f/2.8L - 70-200 f/2.8L IS - 50 f/1.8 II - 580EX II - 486RC2/055MF3

My family has been with them for three generations now for everything from home to life to auto to renter's insurance. Alas, we've been thru a few different agents in the last few years and that whole 'history' thing seems to become more distant of a memory every day. 40D - 24-70 f/2.8L - 70-200 f/2.8L IS - 50 f/1.8 II - 580EX II - 486RC2/055MF3
