Used 1Ds v 5D

So I've run into a little cash windfall. Got some fairly decent glass, especially considering my current skill level (low skills - lots to learn), so I'm thinking about adding a higher-grade camera body to my bag (I have a 350D now).

My thinking is to buy either a used 1Ds or a 5D - my price range caps out at around $2,000 US (which puts the 1Ds Mark II out of my reach, so we're talking original 1Ds). My shooting is mostly sporting events and portraits, with the rare wildlife or landscape thrown in (got no eye for the landscape thing yet, but maybe someday...).

Before I make my choice, I'd like to hear from the experienced and wise folks here on POTN. So, ya'all have any thoughts on the matter?

Personally I would go for the new 5D. You can get a used 1Ds that is in perfect condition, that was meticulously cared for and be perfect in just about every way except for the fact that you don't know how many shutter actuations it has on it.
On one hand, you could use that camera for years without issues. On the other hand, it could crap out on you in a month.
But then again, a new 5D could crap out on you in a month, but you would have a warranty to fall back on.

That's just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions.
