40D Handstrap-WOW

I just got my new Canon E-1 Handstrap and all I can say is wow. I got two, one for my 20D and one for my 40D. I don't know why I waited so long or how I've lived this long without one. Well actually I do know why...lol. I didn't know they had one until I came here to the forum, frustrated with my kneck strap. This strap is amazing and I highly recommend it. It really relieves the stress on the hand and wrist when trying to hold the camera without the strap!

hi...just a quick question...i've been looking at hand straps as well...as the whole neck strap doesn't work for me...do you need to have a battery grip for the E-1 strap to work?...or does it just go into the tripod mount on the bottom of the camera?

Yes you have to have a grip, It's worth it though. A grip and the E1 strap makes a world of diference. It's so comfortable!

you need the grip, they are great together. I could never shoot without a grip again and now I will never be able to shoot without a handstrap. Amazing grip with total comfort!

There are some brand of handstraps that don't need a grip. I think Hakuba makes one, but not sure. Do a search here and I'm sure you'll find a reference to them.

But, welcome to the E1 club. I always use one and absolutely love it. It is the perfect mate to the POTN neckstrap.

You don't need a grip. Get a Camdapter plate and you're good to go. My plate is a Manfrotto QR version I leave on all the time. You can even use your neck strap if you choose.

I have a 40D and see one end of the strap would be affixed on the right hand side but what about the second end? Underneath? Please post a shot if you can.

In order to use the E1 handstrap, you'll either need a battery grip or a plate or anchor that screws to the bottom of the camera and to which the other end of the handstrap loops through.

My tripod came with two quick connect mounts. One stays on the tripod the other I had attached to the 30D. I popped off the little level tube and used that slot for the bottom of the strap.

Ah, that makes sense, yes. I am planning on getting a grip pretty soon. Thanks.

If you use an arca-swiss compatible tripod head, the RRS and Kirk plates also come with a lug where you can attach the handstrap. I'm using an RRS plate on my 40D and I love it with the E1 handstrap. I think I might be going neck-strapless sometimes

I have a Camdapter hand strap, and I love it!

I just put my E1 on my gripped 5D last night and just after playing around with it I like it. Not going to like having to take it off and on whenever I take my grip off (sometimes I really like shooting light weight) but its a small price to pay... Waiting to get my op/tech strap to go with it too!

Just don't tighten the hand strap where your hand is glued to the camera. There is a lot of misconception on how this works. This hand strap should wrap your hands loosely allowing your fingers to access the controls/shutter button.

Overall, it's one of the best accessory in my opinion.
