Just don't tighten the hand strap where your hand is glued to the camera. There is a lot of misconception on how this works. This hand strap should wrap your hands loosely allowing your fingers to access the controls/shutter button.

Overall, it's one of the best accessory in my opinion.

Agreed. If you do it too tight then it will cause problems when you want to access the various controls on top.

I got the Canon BG-E2N battery grip and the Canon E1 hand strap this week. My 40D feels like a totally different camera. Besides the hand grip, you can also keep the neck strap on the camera if you'd like.

I highly recommend the combo.

Yep, I added the Op/Tech Pro Loop neck strap yesterday and love the two together. I didnt think I was going to like the combo as much as I do.

There are some brand of handstraps that don't need a grip. I think Hakuba makes one, but not sure. Do a search here and I'm sure you'll find a reference to them. :D

+1 for Hakuba

I have 4 canon DSLR's and all of them the hakuba handstrap. I find them very confortable and easy to use and you dont need a battery grip.

Are these pretty quick to remove/move out of the way, in order to attach a plate & put it on a tripod?

John,
If your talking about the hakuba, it takes less than 30 seconds to totally remove it from the camera so you can have access to mount for the plate. The strap of course will be hanging from the top because it is looped through the holder on top.

Good to know, thanks for the info. That sounds like a nice thing to add to dslr's.

are these straps more to support the camera in your hand while taking a photo or to actually carry the camera around instead of using the neck strap. i too find the neck strap super uncomfortable and awkward.

this hand grip thing may be the answer im looking for/

I have been asked to show photo with the strap on the 40D so I thought I would just post it here for everyone. :)

I've had my E-1 on my XTi for about a week now and I love it too!! I've wanted one ever since I got my grip and with my flash and 17-85 it gets a bit heavy. I can't imagine not having one on a xxD body. LOL

The latter - your left hand should be supporting all the weight of the camera and the lens when shooting. Having the hand strap does mean that if your hold slips it's unlikely to drop from your hand.

If you use an arca-swiss compatible tripod head, the RRS and Kirk plates also come with a lug where you can attach the handstrap. I'm using an RRS plate on my 40D and I love it with the E1 handstrap. I think I might be going neck-strapless sometimes :)

Mike, how are you attaching the E1 to your RRS plate? I've got the plate for my 5D (and soon for my 40D), and am curious.
