Got up this morning to find my 40D has defaulted to 30 second exposures in the : P, TV, AV, M and dep modes. The camera works fine on the auto modes.
I have had battery in battery out, changed lenses etc etc but Cam still defaults to 30 sec exposure. It does not matter which exposure I choose it always goes to 30 sec exposure and does not record what would be a faulty image to the card.
Any Ideas? Has anyone had experience of this? If so is there a fix I can apply?
Much appreciated if you can advise.

Cheers

Is your lens cap still on?

Ok in seriousness, do you have a grip on? They can cause some weird s**t. This happens even in manual mode?!

No grip...and no lens cap :) Also just changed battery in case this caused a problem but no change.

Sounds ominous. Let us know what Canon says.

What aperture(s) does the camera indicate? Have you tried this with different lenses?

I would suggest taking out the big battery and the little battery. You might have to fix all your setting but it would certainly be quicker than shipping it to Canon.

You might also think about re-loading the firmware.

Go into your menu and clear all camera settings. If that doesn't get things back to normal call Canon service and get a number for sending it in.

Strange, tried all of the above except the small battery, dont know where this is. What i have noticed is when you push the shutter button it will return the shutter after 30 sec. If you push the shutter button then push it again it returns the shutter on the second push. One push to open one to close. This happens in AV TV M Dep and P modes.

Yep, read page 98 of the 40D instruction manual, taking note of the second to last bulleted item on that page.

Be thankful for two things:

1. You now know about the functionality of the mirror lockup capability.
2. Your forum name is not LightRules!
