Is the 285HV an "official" Vivitar product?

Looking at Vivitar's website I couldn't find the 285HV. I wondered whether it actually is an "official" product.

It was. Vivitar has discontinued it.
Some people had issues with some units.
Some units failed easily.

Depending on what you do a Sunpak 383 is a good replacement (no zoom head).
Got mine for $80~ and it has the same power as a Canon 580EXII.
It just does not have the same recycle time and it is manual and non ETTL.
For studio work the 383 is highly regarded for it's cost effectiveness (and it is quite easy to use on the camera using the chart).

I remember checking Vivitar's website quite some time ago when the 285HV was definitely being sold and it wasn't listed. None of their flashes was listed for that matter.
