Well what a cock up i made of the settings.........800 mm, F8, ISO 800 and -2/3rd + flash ( for the first ) at about 80 feet resulted in speeds of 1/320th and 1/400th, should have been f5.6....oh and i did`nt pan the bl%%dy camera either.
Dialed in the F5.6...............nev​er saw him again.

Pretty good shots for a cock up. There sure is a lot of potential there for a great shot with the very colourful bird and the attractive habitat.

Thanks for the comments guys, just a bit disappointed that i could`nt get a decent crop from either shot as there was very little detail ............... Im gonna have to get me a wet suit or a boat ! :rolleyes:

Good effort Carlton, and I take it it's with a 2x converter. If so, it certainlt looks sharp considering the size of the bird in the frame.

Why don't you apply for a 'disturbance license' now to photograph them at or near the nest site in nesting season. I have one and it makes for unbelievable photography I can tell you.

The hard part is, of course, finding a suitable nestsite.

I've just been talking about you on the phone with Tony K, all good of course. :lol:
