IM looking into getting this lens i went to wolf camera to day to look at them bc i dont buy my stuff online. The lady there tried to talk me into get the Tamron 24-70 i believe it was. it was more but the reviews i saw on it were not good she kinda pushed me towards it but i had my heart set on the canon 28-105. Im in a price range of under $400. I didn't get either bc the canon wasn't in stock or i probably would have just gotten it. So now im here deciding on if i should get the canon or go with another one.
Anyone got any advice, Im new at lens shopping really since im on a budget i dont know what ot really buy. I do portrats but i like the zoom on them too and my kit lens well yeah its a kit lens you know lol.

I've owned both lenses (Tamron 28-75mm f2.8) and the Tamron is a better lens. It's amazingly sharp and it's f2.8. The 28-105mm II USM is a lens that isn't talked about much, but it's absolutely great for the price.

My advice is to go for the Tamron. It's awesome.

IQ and speed of the tamron will be better, but the 28-105 is an excellent lens for the price, and with its USM, the autofocus on the Canon will be much better. At half the price, the 28-105 is quite a steal. Both are excellent lenses.

The 28-105 Mk II is a great little lens. There's one for sale in the Buy/Sell forum for only $180 (if you don't mind used). And no, I'm not the one selling it, nor do I know the person that's selling it...just stumbled across it.

I've owned both the tamron 28-75 and the 28-105 and given the choice I'd take the tamron as its sharper and much faster then the Canon. The Canon is a fantastic lens for walking around outdoor but for portraits and general usage the Tamron is more versatile.

The Tamron 17-50 2.8 is a better lens for the 300D IMO. For day to day and walkaround use then the wide angle end is often more used than the 50-70mm range that you'd lose.

Agreed. That's why I sold the 28-75 and just picked up the 17-50. 28mm is simply not wide enough on a crop sensor.
