I was up late last night and was reading about ring flashes, so I figured I would try to make my own with some household items I had. It's made out of cardboard, aluminum foil, masking tape, tissue paper.

I used this tutorial:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/disc...57603455708647/ (external link)

Here is how it turned out:

Here are a few pictures I took using it:

that is definitely ghetto as heck. I like threads like this that prove you don't need all the fancy stuff to make decent shots. Having said that I must also say I love my ABR800. :P

Haha. How much did it end up costing you? I just wanted to at least attempt a DIY, because I know I won't be able to afford a true ring flash for a long long time. College is a destroyer of expenses.

It looks like a toilet seat. Very nice results.

It does produce excellent results.

Now draw a picture of fuzzy dice on there somewhere

Hahaha, I never even saw that, but now I can for sure. I need to paint it all black.

Haha that second picture is the type of face I would make when testing out a DIY project. The results are very nice. I might make my own after seeing this.

Yep, that's the first thing I thought when I saw the first pic.

Looks like it works well though, you got some nice shots out of it.

Great results! I made one out of a bundt cake pan that came out pretty good.

Great Shots!

I noticed that you put the masking tape over the entire thing... Is that how you diffuse the light a little??

The last pic of the ringflash is cut off... Or is the second pic the final result??

The tape is probably to hold it together the white paper/velum/whatever on the ring is what diffuses the light.
