I probably doubled my life list during my recent trip to AZ, but my favorite bird has got to be this little guy
. Check out those stunning eyes! These were taken at Mt. Lemon near Tucson and, yes, that is snow!

I had heard from a fellow photographer that Arizona was a birder's paradise. Yes, it is NIRVANA! Don't get me wrong, I love our birds up here but the variety and number of birds I encountered in AZ comparatively is amazing. nwyman wrote in post #4885078 Neat bird - I'd never heard of that one before. Nice photos of him too. Yeah, when I first saw him I thought (whimsically of course) that maybe he was some undiscovered species Hikin Mike wrote in post #4885205 Great series! Never heard about this one either and I was just there in Arizona a few months ago. The only place I encountered this species was in the upper elevations of Mt. Lemon. canonloader wrote in post #4885481 Wow Michele, cool looking bird. I lived out there for over 8 years and never saw this guy. ![]() Thanks Mitch. He is one you'd definitely remember seeing. According to Sibley range is mostly Mexico with a few in most southerly AZ in mountainous region. Michele

Nice looking Junco. Please tell those aren't spring bulbs coming up behind the bird. I think they may have been remnants of fall flowers but don't quote me on that. I'm not very familiar with AZ growing seasons. I did see the crocus fronds coming through here in PA though last week Thanks Gary! zacker wrote in post #4885279 lol... creepy eyes! nice shots. jorj7 wrote in post #4885498 Very nice series Michele.
