Hello All,

I am looking for recommendations for a good monitor for editing my photos. My budget is about $500.

Thanks for your help !

I would like to jump in on that request actually, however, I have a more specific question.
With all the flatscreens coming out and getting better and better: Do CRT Displays still give better results and clearer viewing when processing photos, or is that just a rumor long dead?
Furthermore, I'm a bit of a Geek and Gamer (Hellgate London, NWN2, Baphomet - Series, Gothica, Thief,...). I know that most (cheap) flat screens really don't manage the FPS needed for those kind of fast paced games.
So basically, I am looking for a monitor, that manages to keep my gaming soul happy, as well as my photographer heart.
My monitor is giving out on me sometime soon and I need a new one, preferrably before I get the Digital Camera ( :P 31 days left whooohooo :D ...).

Any advice would be much appreciated :c)

Thanks,
Giovanna

No idea whatsoever about gaming, but I still like my LaCie CRT.
Nowadays, I think some LCDs might have surpassed CRTs, but there's quite a price premium to pay.
For LCDs you'd want a S-IPS for photo editing. For gaming this isn't ideal AFAIK.
Here (external link) is a lengthy tread, with recommendations in post #2.

If you can find a decent used CRT, and don't mind the weight and bulk (My 22" LaCie is about 30kgs!), I'd say go for it.

What a lenghty read. I will sit down at it over the weekend when I am a little less time pressured.

Thanks for your answer! Very helpful information indeed :) I will try and see what I can find :D
