i was looking for another flash to add to my strobist kit and was going the budget route -- i just wanted something to put some filters on and fire remotely...well i stopped into one of the local pawn shops and there she sat...an Achiever Auto Thyristor 260T sitting on the shelf all by herself, and with a sticker price of $5.95....well that was bargain enough but the rep said "if you but it just give me $4"....i figure, heck it's $4, if it does not work, what they hey....but sure enough, I stick it on my cactus receiver, prop it on a tripod, and fire away....and it never missed a shot...works like a charm....WOOHOOO....and that's my find of the day!!! just figured i'd share :)

Good work!
Obviously the boards will be quiet for the next couple hours as all the POTN'ers race out to their local pawn shops!

While I live in an area where pawn shops are far and few between (Madison, Janesville, Wisconsin). I used to live in Denver and figured that when I would make a visit back to the area and paruse the local pawn shops I probably would find treasure in piles of trash.

It's amazing what stuff you can find in pawn shops if you know what to look for. Now granted I haven't been able to find another 200mm 1.8 yet for $1000 I have picked up my fair share of filters and other things at minimal fractions of cost as what retail would pull from my wallet.
