Today was my first real outing with my news lens which I bought beginning of january but weather and light has been poor combined with me being busy with work. So today the light was the best since I got the lens (but still light could be much better). I had to bump ISO quite high. Most shooting was done at ISO 2000 or higher.
I think the 400 f/5.6 is difficult to hold steady so I think I don't get the top sharpness that this lens can deliver because I simply can't hold it steady enough. Oh well maybe Canon will update this lens one day with IS.
Ok now for some photos.
First we have an African Crowned Crane
Heron in flight
Gull in flight with dinner (these are definately seen better but this was my first time catching a bird in flight with dinner)

The whites are hot but for me it works well for the gull exploding out of the water. With a little practice you will be panning that 400 for BIF with no problems, just remember to set the focus limiting switch to 8.5 to infinity to get the fastest focus for the inflights, use AI servo and I also use the custom function that sets the * button for focus. hold the * button down , keep the center focus point on the subject and hold down the shutter button and hang on, this lens will make you happy!
