hi... dammit I didnt get the job at Sky TV :( it was me and someone else. And they picked the other person based on having experience in a similar role. Gosh the job market is so competitive. I kind of wish I didnt go Uni and did a building apprenticeship or something in trades. At least I would be working.

Im just so sick of job interview after interview and so on... I have got more opportunity's coming up. But after so many interviews and rejections im just beginning to wear thin at the moment. Makes me wonder why its so damn hard to just start a job.

Yeah I know its not photography thread. But this is in general chat now. Just stressed out. Its hard to pick yourself up after two long interviews knowing that your close and then being rejected. Its happened to me three times now with top jobs.

Of course complaining about it is not the best option. So ill just keep trying. The way I have looked at it is, that I have been rejected for these jobs for a reason. And perhaps the perfect job is coming up. I guess im just weary and a little bit envious, jealous that other graduates have already secured roles. And here I am still the same old. I just feel that these industries only look for experience. But not passion...

Heey, It's all part of the experience.

When I was in London I was told by friends from N.Z. that to earn money fast I should get a job as an accountant. I know Zit about accounting but thought I'd give it a go. I was told to mention a few keywords & take it from there. There are loads of temping agencies in London so I started at the first. They then asked me a question that I couldn't answer & felt like a complete dick head, but back home I found someone to ask what I should have answered.
The next interview went a bit better, but it was still obvious I didn't have any idea about accounting, and there where a few more questions I couldn't answer. SO I researched and found the answers.
The third went better still. By the fourth I could answer nearly all their questions. The fifth and sixth interviews where basically run by me as I had so much interview experience that I knew almost every question and the answers expected.
I think I went to 8 different interviews in all & uesd each one as a learning experience.
When I got a job (Which went pretty fast) I learnt fast & worked hard. After 6 months I had moved up to head of departement of Credit control in a large publishing company. (Sounds good... we where two). When I left they tried very hard to convince me I should stay.

Anyway try to use your experience fo learning. Don't look at it as a setback but an experience.

Dave - Congrats! where are the pics?

They were poo. Not sticking my name to them. At all. :(

*** Dave's Movie Reviews ***

So tonight we watched two films. Notes on a Scandal and The Kingdom. Both sublime.

Notes on a Scandal is basically the tale of Judi Dench following the sorry tale of Cate Blanchett's teacher come emotional train-wreck character, and as she gets more and more involved and intertwined with Cate's character, the mental instabilities rise to the surface. I guess the plot is actually pretty simple but the acting of the two ladies and Bill Nighy as cate's husband is straight out of the very top drawer. Thoroughly compelling and a must have in anyone's DVD collection let alone to just watch. 5/5.

The Kingdom is a story of how a team of four FBI agents con their way into Saudi Arabia to follow up a terrorist attack on US citizens on Saudi soil. Mistrust and anger give way to blossoming friendships in the face of danger as the two county's men work towards the common goal. What's admirable for a Hollywood flick dealing with the politics of US/Middle East war, terrorism and desire for oil is that it has the courage to show the Western world very firmly that not all Saudis (or whichever country we're talking about) are terrorists, and that most of them are people just like us. It also has the courage to show that no matter how much you put on the line, it's essentially futile. 4.5/5 if only for the fact it runs a little slowly for fifteen minutes or so in the middle. Hire it, watch it, feel enlightened. The add it to the collection. ;)

On a lighter note, Bob's just realised there are smileys available when I make a post on here (she's not a forum user) and thinks they're ace. So she's told me to use this one: :p All just for you peeps! 8)

Cheers, Dave.

A bit of film pop culture for you lot still awake.

Alfred Hitcock's 'Vertigo' then and now. Clicky (external link)

Amazing both how much and how little things change over the years. Gives me the same sort of feeling as when you see very old motorsport photos, same circuit, same kinks and bumps but whout the crash fencing and curbs, excpet in this case its Starbucks.

Cheers, Dave.

I have now worked out the legacy FORD have given Land Rover - Fix Or Repair Daily - I've had the blasted thing nearly 2 weeks and it has spent most of that time getting stuff repaired. :(

Matt, just had a glimpse through your flickR again. Mention of me again, like I'm an intrepid traveller.

Keep persisting on the job front, one will be waiting for you just around the corner.
I had a slow year in 2002, where I worked part time for a year, plus started doing a Unitec course for Bachelor of Computer Studies, but decided I didn't want to pursue several years and massive student loans for something so rapidly changing, and a keen interest. Just like photography - too much of your main interest as a full time job, can sometimes take the joy out of it.

I've had a full on day myself, Matt Lamb visited for a few hours, took shots of his Honda CBR 250, then off to Bethells for 2 hours until after sunset for some casual portraits, mostly candid which I'm very happy about. And finally some astrophotography between 10 and 12:30am tonight. Near full moon, and shooting Orion.
Simply too much shimmering in the sky, but it's my last chance for quite a while.
Two more full days left. :(
