Its just that someone wrote a comment on my website that really made me think.

artistrybybrianne:
Matt, I think your an extremely creative guy. You look like someone who has studied photography for years. I got a B.A. in photography and I don't think my work is nearly as creative as yours. I'm still growing and learning everyday tho'. Did you ever consider working in photography? You could be a nature photographer and work for magazines, or a freelancer, and do contract jobs. You could sell your (expressionism)to art galleries who would promote your work and get you recognition. I would recommend you look into one of these possibilites. Photography may just become your whole life.

I mean I could start off finding a job that involves photography. Would be nice on my CV. And then if I don't like it ill just head off somewhere else. I suppose this whole time in my job finding ive been looking for stuff that will impress my family and friends. Now im beginning to realize that I have to go for things that will improve... myself. A photography related career would be a dream job for me really.

Thats exactly how I felt when I entered the design/animation industry, I had ALL the passion you are displaying now, and more :)

Don't get me wrong, I loved it at first, and still enjoyed it from time to time, but it certainly lost its spark.

Ask a mechanic if he wants to work on cars in his spare time.

Ask a baker if he wants to bake bread on his day off.

Get my drift? Although If you are working in the photography industry indirectly, like processing/printing or something then your passion for taking shots should last longer.

I know you are still very young etc and I know I never really took on what people were telling me when I was your age so I am going to wish you luck and leave it there. LOL

But you gotta put things into perspective that it is about the person as well and there outlook on life. Everyones different.

What about Karen walker. And fashion designers... There passion for clothing style drives money output. You can say the same with a photography related career. Magnum, photojournalists people that work for national geographic. They are engaged into there careers purely as a passion.

I suppose the way some other people view it as an almost ironic way of looking at it. But yeah you have scared me. hehe.

Hey all, just a quick reference check really. Does everyone here who has upgraded their camera body and kept their old one actually ever use the old one? I am in two minds about keeping the 400d body. The new purchase has left me card hurting again, nothing a few months wont fix... but I HATE oweing money :) The 40D is going to do everything my 400d can and then some, its nice having a second body for the 'little woman' to play with when she comes out on shoots with me, and also means I don't have to change lenses as much out in the forest/beach etc which is a good thing.

On the flip side, its $800ish sitting there being used very little and the 450D is coming out in the next month or two meaning the 400d will instantly lose a few hundy in resale value.

Does it stay or does it go :| ¿?

are yu still looking to borrow a 40d.

if you can get around to mine tonight then you can have loan of mine untill next wednesday... if it suits.

you know how to get hold of me ;)

Thanks brother, ended up getting paid for some design work I did a while back for a client in France, so paid off the 70 - 200 yesterday and maxed out the card again with a 40d, a stofen diffuser for the 550 ex (thats right, no more milk containers) and a Nikon sb-28 flash. All for $1824, so saved a good few hundy. Just need to do lots of work again to pay for it all LOL

Picked up 2 extra batteries for $35 shipped too which I was pretty rapt with. And will grab a remote shutter release from one of my overseas suppliers and I'll be back where I was :)

Going to put the 400D on tardme tonight unless anyone knows anyone looking to enter the dslr market. If so PM me, we'll talk.

If it was for someone on this forum, or a close friend or family I will throw in a free gift of some form :)

A second body is fine in-studio, or draped from the neck on a two-camera strap (clumsy) or if you always have a -very- tame assistant. Otherwise it will be useful only when in a few months you have to send the 40D in for repair.;)

Sell the 400D now, and buy your lady a good, current P&S. She'll love it, and might even let you carry it for her. And there may even be a hundred or two left over.

Canon Servicing seems to have improved:

Canon 20D in 11 Feb, back 18th!

"dismantled to replace release switch, shutter, adjusted exposure, cleaned sensor, reassembled and checked all functions" and only $187.

Well done, Canon.

I just applied for a job at frogprints. Ive decided to try and look for a job that is close to photography. Since I enjoy it.

They are wanting to hire a printer person. I submitted my CV and even called him. Had a chat and told him I absolutely love photography. And everything like that. I told him to look out for my cv :)

If you get the job - can you ask them to deal with my complaint that's 3 months old.. rude buggers. Also ask them to sort their printing out - its crap lol

Be very carefull ... once you do a hobby for a living the fun quickly gets sucked out of it.

I used to love animation and computer design. I worked in the industry for 7 years and the love certainly faded. Instead of doing the cool things you like, you end up with all this boring corporate work. Instead of animating something cool, I ended up animating a lozenger going down someones throat for a TV commercial etc... which is one reason I am very wary of using photography to earn an income. I am happy to explore the options, but it would be on my terms and never full time.

I agree - although the printing side of photography is probably different to the taking photos part so perhaps the novelty wouldn't wear off so quickly.. who knows..

You must have jumped the queue ahead of us then!!

Our 17-55 went in on 30th January and HASNT EVEN BEEN LOOKED AT!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR I rang them and abused them today after getting told last week that things are taking 15-20 working days to even be looked at. Today is WORKING day 17. Apparently now its finally being escalated or so they say. Not to mention I dropped it off at Photo Warehouse on the 24th of Jan and it took a week to get to Canon..

On second thoughts they probably churned yours out because its money for them... warranty jobs they get nothing from so they can wait obviously as far as they're concerned..

A bunch of Canon bits and pieces.
