A friend in work is getting more into digital and the place he always used for film printing apparently has no clue about printing digital. (I spoke to 3 people who didn't know what I meant when I asked about sRGB or Adobe RGB.) So he's looking for a place online to get good - but more importantly kinda cheap - prints made. (5x7 & 8x10 almost exclusively.)

One important thing to him is that they won't get freaked out by nude shots. So Costco & Ritz and them are out.

One important thing to me is that they know about printing digital, and have some exact specs on TIFF or JPG, AdobeRGB or sRGB, DPI, etc. I don't want him to get bad colors because of a color profile mismatch.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I have used OFoto.com and ezprints.com
OFoto is CHEAP! But, they only take JPGs, and I don't know exactly what kind of processing/optimization they do to the pics if they do any.

EZPrints is pretty cheap too, and they take Tiff files as well. I ordered a 16 x 20 and it looked pretty damned good to me.

I just got a print from mPix and turn-around was very fast--a couple of days.

The print was pretty good, but I messed up and forgot to clone out a dust spot from the sensor before I sent the file to them.

Anyway, I suggest your friend write to anyone he may send stuff to before hand and ask up front if they have any policy on nude shots. That way, there's no surprises for anybody.

a camera, some lenses, various paraphernalia...

Thanks guys.

Qurly, I think that's going to be the way to go.

You know, I am truly surprised by the number of sites that have no info whatsoever about DPI, color profile, or image format (JPG, etc). I'm not expecting color match perfection, but sending a 16-Bit AdobeRGB TIFF will get much different results than an sRGB JPG.... I don't get it.

I have to assume that the cheaper places will be fine with 300 DPI sRGB JPGs, but I hate assuming.
