Those are few of mine from yesterday, they were shot ISO 400 Shutter priority and shutter speed 200 i think. I was using and would generally use the kit lens.

ANY help greatly appriciated!

With the 300D I'd use the Sports Mode, which is the only way to get the Rebel in AF Servo Mode. Servo Mode will allow the camera to track the moving subject to try to keep focused. You put the center focus spot on the rider, half press the shutter, this will lock the focus on him, now keeping one of the focus points on the rider the camera will track him until you press the shutter button fully, you need to keep it half pressed for this to work. Sports Mode is the only way to get the 300D to use AF Servo even with the firmware hack.
Sports Mode also automatically sets the iso to 400 also and unless you have the hack sets the record to jpg.

You need to up the ISO in order to get a faster shutter speed. What was the light like?, you were under the trees so could you have used a faster shutter speed with 400 ISO, or you could of used flash to freeze the bike. Have a look at the photo I took, this was 400 ISO f5.6 with a little flash,

I did use the onboard flash, mind me asking Graham, but how do you use a little flash?

Right mate! What you need to do is up the iso to get a faster shutter speed! Then if you know where the riders are going to be then you could manual focus on the point! I don't bother doing that, but with the kit lens (which is a little slow at focusing) you may need to!

I Use TV mode and depending on the effect i up and reduce teh shutter speed! By reducing the flash he means that in the menu there is flash exposure and you woudl need to reduce this to say -1 or even 2.

Hope this helps!

I have a 580ex flash mounted on the hotshoe. You can turn the flash power down to 1/2 or 1/4 or 1/8 power
