"Pangea Software, Inc., has announced the release of Bracketeer, a new utility for photographers who take multiple "bracketed" exposures of a scene in order to capture a more complete range of shading in the image.
Traditionally, bracketed exposures are used to create HDR images that can be Tone Mapped down to a standard image that a computer monitor can display. The result of Tone Mapping is that details in shadows can be seen while details in bright areas such as windows are not blown out. Bracketeer, however, provides an alternate method to Tone Mapping, called enfusing. Enfused images are created directly from the bracketed source images, so no HDR image is ever needed. The results are generally much better than a Tone Mapped image since there are no halos around bright areas, there is no random pixel garbage caused by moving objects, and the contrast does not get washed out. Additionally, processing time is much faster using the Enfuse method compared with HDR.
Bracketeer was originally designed for use with bracketed panoramas, so it has built-in support for previewing 360º VR Panoramas, however, it works perfectly with standard photographs as well.
The current version of Bracketeer can be downloaded from the Pangea Software website
.
The utility is free to all owners of PanoPreviewer—one of Pangea's other photography related utilities. Otherwise, a serial number to activate the full version of Bracketeer costs just $19.95, and that includes PanoPreviewer as well."
