Lighting seems okay, but her smile is out of context. Looks like she wasn't ready for the shot.

I like the shot and for a casual snapshot I think it's good. I have to agree about the background not being great and I also think the white balance is off. Try pulling back the red a bit and boosting blue. Take a color sample from the gray t-shirt to set your balance.

I kinda like the skin tones; nice and warm. Gives a nice pleasing feel to it.
