Palm and Pagoda

Here we have a tropical palm tree in front of a Japanese pagoda. The contrast is a naturally growing tropical plant in a very mountainous, non-tropical country.

The Mouse, the Cat, & the Grasshopper

I had a grasshopper mount my lens after seeing his/her reflection in the lens. I took the shot and later realized that its abdomen is marked suspiciously like a cats face possibly wearing sunglasses. *smile*. Looking closer to the "cats nose" There is a mouse face complete with eyes and ears.

Boy vs Car

Canon PowerShot A620
Peel P50 (smallest car in the world)
Amelia Island, Florida
2006 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance

Minimal changes to levels, small use of sharpening and small use of cropping - otherwise original

I took the shot and later relized (when looking at them) the kid enhanced the picture - and I just remebered I had it about 2 minutes ago and thought it would make a perfect picture for this contest.

My wife contemplating a bronze sculpture in a gallery garden at Tubac, Arizona. An abstract moment. January 2008

The contrasts are:

Two female forms, one inanimate and one otherwise.

Age contrast, young and (well, let's say) mature.

Ethnic difference. American native and (well, let's say) WASP

Period maybe 19th-early 20th century vs 2008

Canon A620, auto

Here are the results:

1st Place - "White Snow/Black Dog" by sanley_pope - Really good photo with great black/white contrast. I love the "expression" on the dog's face and the touch of snow on his head and nose. Great job - congratulations.

2nd place - "My flourescent light" by abuseddog. Sometimes simple is better. This is very simple, but the contrast is powerful.

3rd place - "Red Rock Canyon" by MJA - Interesting contrast of shapes, sizes, and colors. Something about the combination appealed to me.

Honorable Mention - "My wife contemplating a bronze sculpture" by urcunina

Thanks to all for entering. Remember this was my personal opinion of the best. All were interesting photos. By the way, RadAL your photo was over the 200K limit, as was quarters'

On to this week's contest. I'm entering - how about you?

1st Place - "White Snow/Black Dog"

2nd place - "My flourescent light" by abuseddog.

Well, I'll be DOG gone!:) This was a small but very interesting challenge. My conception of contrast has been interestingly expanded. I enjoyed seeing/participating in this one. Certainly black-white is the ultimate contrast.
