Interesting video on Liveleak about filming the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. I believe the rules they are stating can be applied to shooting photography as well.

So what's the big deal? They're saying that you can't film while on their property. You can do whatever you want when you are on the public sidewalk. They cannot stop you from filming their property from the public property.

Kind of ironic that the KODAK theater doesn't allow photography on its property :)

I've photographed there a bazillion times there and never had security tell me to not shoot, except once on the day before the Oscars when they had all the stuff set up. It is a private property and you cannot film in private property if the owner does not want you to.

Listening to the security guard, someone complained about being videotaped by this person, so security got involved.

I'm not sure what the big deal is either.

I shoot there and next door at Graumans all the time and have never had a problem nor have I seen any amateurs getting hasseled.. Thanks for pointing that out though.

There's more here than meets the eye. I bet the photographer was being a jerk with his camera and some jerk didn't want to be filmed. All of this taking place on the same piece of private property.

What you can and cannot do on private property is up to the owners of that property. No matter what the policy of the property owner is towards inviting the public onto their property, there's most likely a bit of text at the end which translates into "Unless you're being a jerk or are perceived as such." Private property owners need to reserve the right to be fickle and capricious with respect to who they allow to do what on their property.

The photographer was asked to stop and he did not stop. He was confrontational. He also started mixing apples and oranges when asking the security guard about laws. I'm sure he wants to make a point with his video, but the point I get is that the photographer is a jerk and was caught being a jerk.

As to the issues he brought up: You do not have a reasonable right of privacy when walking around in public. You do not have a reasonable right to privacy when walking around in clear view of a public place. However, if you're on private property and the photographer is on the same property, you can ask the owner to stop the photographer.

Stick to one issue at a time. Please.
