Yes, it was balmy single digit day here on Sunday and I was bored and decided to go for a little ride along Lake Erie. Stopped to take some shots of the icy bay and the great black-backed gull I'd seen flying along the water's edge. Not to be outdone a ring-billed and herring gull decided to get in on the photo.

Thanks Dave, I just got a similar reply back from the guy I take birding ID classes from but he told me it is two great black-backed gulls, a first and a fourth cycle, and one herring gull?

Ouch - hope you're not paying for your classes!!!!!! He's wrong it's as mentioned 1st winter and adult Herring gull and adult Greater Black-backed. You can see by size that there's only one GBB Gull
Just to add that 4th cycle for a Herring Gull would technically be an adult so perhaps he just transposed the names

Thanks again Dave! I see what you mean about the size differences, maybe he did transpose the names. Man, gulls are almost as bad as sparrows as far as ID :(
