They LOWERED the price from $299 to $199. Do you think they want to get Adobe's attention??

Looks more like 100 new features - according to the website. Many features which lightroom already has. Aperture is really catching up - although it was very good to begin with.

yeah, this update looks good for Aperture AND LR users. I'm getting tired of round tripping stuff from LR into Photoshop just to get decent sharpening and noise reduction. Will definitely be keeping an eye on how Aperture plays out - and how quicly Adobe responds...

I would disagree. They want people to buy macs. That and most of their ported software is pretty bloated feeling in windows. I still use iTunes because I like it, but there's no masking the fact it's a little sluggish. It's hidden a little by the fact dual core is everywhere now.

I just recently switched to lightroom though, mainly for the speed, and partly in case I start working in a dual OS environment, so I don't lose all my edits.

Any word on performance? I might just stick w/ Aperture, but given the requirements took a bump up, I doubt it. Damn you apple for not having a headless mac that isn't the mini or pro.

I understand the aspect of buying the mac but .... investing into a new system and hardware makes the software quite 'pricey' so to speak.

Aperture is highly integrated with OS X. It uses Leopard's own Quick Look[for RAW] and HUD frameworks. I wouldn't hold on to them porting it anytime soon to be honest.

I was going to start a thread on Aperture 2 when I saw this one.
Nice going.

I have a question before buying Aperture 2:
Is Aperture a one-stop app for the entire workflow one may need when shooting in RAW?

Looking for current experiences if you care to, please share your experiences/ educated opinions about using Aperture as opposed to LightRoom or even a different workflow set-up. Depending on what you guys say, I'll download the trial version from Apple to play with it first.

Thank you.

P.S: A similar POTN thread can be read here. and a very interesting comparison between both apps can be formulated from the comments section on this page. (external link)

100 new features, no real new 'wow' tho. I'd say Adobe has nothing to worry about, except for the Vibrance feature getting poached =)

It's far faster now. (since it uses Quick Look) I'm on first gen Macbook with 2GB ram and the raws load in a matter of seconds. Navigation and organization is far better in Aperture than Lightroom to be honest. I really can't stand the different modules for Library and Developing. :/

We'll have to see how the next Lightroom is before we can judge. ;)

Hmm, hasn't hit the UK store yet. Do you think the UK retail will fall too?

Little OT:

How does Aperture do as far as its default color representation? I don't mind undersaturated, lack of contrast, etc... I'm speaking in terms of colorshifts like I get ala Adobe ACR.
