Hi everyone... Now that we have the tickets for Beijing, I am ready to pull the trigger for a decent telephoto lens that I will need for this trip... some indoor and outdoor events. We have 21 days there so we'll be doing some tours also.
My budget is only $1,000... and wait, shall I buy as early as now or wait til June or July?

Thanks!

70-200 F/2.8L, 200 F/2.8L, 135 F/2L are the lenses that come to mind.

You should wait a little longer, until the new rebates are known, April or May probably. Don't wait till the last minute, however, because you want to know your equipment well in advance of going, therefore need to practice, plus you want to make sure that the lens you choose is the right one for you, which means you need a little time for potential exchanges as well.

HTH, kind regards, Wim

Thanks for the reply Wim.
I just checked the archive section of the 70-200 f2.8 - maybe I can save more for the IS version ;-)a
And you are so right about getting some practice first... So, if I get this lens, can I leave my 28-135 & 50 1.8 then?
So, will I be set for these?

70-200 2.8 (hopefully)

The current rebates end 2/15 if that helps any. 70-200 f/2.8 seems like the best choice IMO. Actually, you should just save your money and send your tickets to me. :)

Yes, for handheld shots, the IS is fantastic.

I can not say enough good things about this lens (70-200L f/2.8 IS).
