Hello all!

I have made a quick search on the forum and I could not find anything specific about this:

Every time Im going to take a photo the icon that indicates a possible camera shake shows up. It does not matters if the camera is on a table or other place more stable than my hands - it shows up.

Reading its manual I could figure out that flash and lights can be another cause of the "shaking icon" to appear. But even in auto-mode it appears sometimes. The zoom does affects it too.

My question is: does that happens with your cameras (a700) too? If it is only a light matter, how can I figure out (as a newbie) how to set up it correctly? What about the zoom? Do I have to forget about it?

Most photos are blury, but some are not. I will upload here the ones I've taken today as soon as my batteries are fully loaded again.

Cheers!

The camera shake light is an indicator that you'll need a slow shutter speed. The camera doesn't know (or care) if it's on a rock solid support. You shouldn't see it outdoors during the day. Other factors that will push it further into the distance are high ISO (which, however, means more noise), setting as wide as possible an aperture or manually setting a fast shutter speed.

This demo will help you understand the relationship between ISO, f-stop and shutter speed. http://dryreading.com/camera/ (external link). Zoom is only indirectly involved. You will notice when you zoom that your f-stop no longer accomodates the lower f-stop settings, so you need to decrease shutter speed or increase ISO to compensate. Or else set the camera on a stable platform like a tripod, and ignore the shake warning. There's no need to upload the photos, the reason they are blurry is pretty obvious.

There are many, many tutorials on the net to help you learn how to operate your camera. I find this site particularly clear. Just read all the topics listed under "Contents" on the left side of the page. http://www.quamut.com/quamut/digital_photography (external link)

Indoors you can almost guarantee that the shake warning will light up.

looking at the info of the photo it shows a 1 second shutter speed, and f5.6 which would require a tripod or desk for a perfect image. 1 second is a fairly long time.
No flash.

if you can put to 2.6 to let more light in drop the speed to 1/20th, you might get away without a flash, but probably will still get blur unless subject isn't moving...

even with my s5 I generally can't take indoor shots without a flash unless the subject is not going to move, ie 'an apple on a table' type shots.

If there is plenty of room lighting you can get away with it if you use:

a: a flash and subject is not far away.
b: use manual or shutter priorety mode and set shutter based on movement, ie someone sitting still you can get away with 1/25th of a second?, but generally you want to set it to 1/60 to 1/120, and without good room lighting or a flash you will get blur happening...

just my take on indoor shots, unless you have a slave flash as the a700 doesn't have a flash shoe socket thingy on top.

just my take on things, but don't quote me if i'm wrong :-)
