thanks very much, the reason i liked the photo was for both the composition and the colour, making the insect stand out.

Nice shot. A little left angle to capture whole insect parallel to the lens for better DOF.

I shot this almost wide open on the 100mm 2.8 its at f/3.5 so that didnt really help me with DOF.
I was just wondering around my garden and this hover stopped flying and landed on the rosemary. it stayed for at least 30-40sec. I grabbed a few shots using only sunlight. Didn't get any hover shots, they are quite difficult.
