Cool - thanks Austin and love the pic Shawn! Colours and lighting are great!

I've been a big fan of the 28-70L for a long time but trying to get your hands on one in NZ is like trying to get a 1D under a thousand bucks!

My dilemma is my Tamron 28-75/2.8 and EF 28-105 II (both great copies) are pretty much the only standard zooms I use on the 1D.

I like the range of the 105mm for walkaround, but is the 24 wide enough for say - group shots (8 max)? I know we're only talking like 4mil - but I wouldn't know. Never owned a 24mm + 1.3 crop :)

I've tried to simulate 24mm with the 30D+17-55 @ 19.5mm but - naaa...doesn't look right. I could have the math wrong mind you

No chance of a 24mm on 1.3 - anyone? Cheers

youre pretty close...but then again you really never know till you try it on the 1d. you should rent both the 24-105 and the 24-70 to see which you prefer.

by the way...a lot of sellers on ebay will ship international. check out ebay usa for 28-70 if thats what your looking for. i love mine. bought on ebay about 2 years ago and havent even thought about the 24-70. only thing i did was send the lens to canon for cleaning and focus calibration. sharp as all hell.

by the way...100% crop of the 28-70 and 1d...
note: no processing other than opening and converting in DPP with default sharpening applied. no additional sharpening or any other foolery in photoshop has been applied. also note in the exif that this was shot @ f/11. supposedly the sweetspot of this lens is between 5.6 and 8. anyway...hope this helps you make an informed decision.

My wife would kill me if I came home with only bird shots after spending $$$ on a trip!

i would. wide angle, fast aperture for under 300...and although it sounds slow because of the loud motor, AF is pretty peppy. another couple from that day with the tammy...

Here's a review of the 1D (external link) [Classic] There is no 1D Classic or MkI, it's just the 1D. Technically.

Here's the review of the 1D MkII. (external link)
