I got my 70-200/4 Non-IS about 3 weeks ago. HAHA, Did I try it on the 40D first? No, it went on the 1D and stayed there about three days before I remembered to even try it on the 40D.

Mine was Tamron 28-75 Xr Di LD, and would work fine on the 1D. It my impression that the lens with II identified made for 1.6 crop, like the 17-50 DI-II Tamron.
