there are 2 issues using crop specific lenses on a 1.3...

the first is that they may protrude into the mirror assembly because the mirror on a 1.3 is much bigger than the mirror on a 1.6. If this is the case you CAN NOT use the lens as it will break the camera. If you don't know what this means I suggest you don't try it.

the second is that optically the lenses designed for a 1.6 have a smaller image circle by design because the sensor on a 1.6 is significantly smaller. If this is the only reason it won't work then you can use them, just expect black or very dark corners and edges.

But generally if it's a cropped lens, you'll at least run into the second issue, so why not just use glass designed for FF? Also the mount is physically the same size (otherwise you wouldn't be able to use "FF glass" on a cropper) but it's marked different for EF (red dots) and EF-S (white diamonds).

This is only true for canon EF-S lenses as I understand it. All of the third party lenses, even if made for crop bodies, still use EF mounts. The only effect a third party crop lens will have on a non EF-S body is vingetting.

I have used both sigma and tokina crop lense on my 1d and have never once had an issue.

Just found this thread looking for info on replacement NP-E3 batteries for my 1D... Thought I would add some more data points to the long exposure questions. I've found that staying under 15 seconds works pretty well at avoiding the purple fringe issue. See these... http://www.creative-pixels.com …y/aurora/index.htm?page=1 (external link)

Bought mine just when the 1d3 was announced. Had it for a steal (250 euros = $370). The press agency I bought it from had it as a backup and had bought all-new 1d3's so the 1d mk1 was obsolete. Good for me :)
Absolutely love the camera, file size, file quality, sharpness, spot-on autofocus, huuuuuge and bright viewfinder and last but not least the price!
I have no problems with the original canon battery, I get about 400 shots on one battery (allthough I disabled the rear LCD image review by default) so that's not bad I think.
One big minus is the inability to zoom in on the images with the back LCD, really a big flaw. (The 1ds mk1 has it) Allthough I know the focus is 99% spot on, this is the reason I hesitate to use it on payed assignments.

I just ordered mine last night. I cant wait to try it.

So far the only lenses I have used on mine has been the 50 1.8 and a nice 80-200 2.8. I cant wait to get more L glass.

Grabbed this one with the 50...

Tha camera is working great as you can see john. PM what you are looking to pay for the lens. There is a local photog in my area that has one he is looking to sell. I can call him real quick and see if he still has it. I actually borrowed his and used it. Its in pretty good shape.

If only it wasn't so noisy at higher iso's, it would be perfect. Maybe mine is different, but I start seeing excessive noise at 800. Maybe if you're outdoors in bright sunlight you won't see the noise as much though.

There's the secret. I have one of the early number models, the ones that were supposed to be so bad, and I use ISO 1000 without fear, as long as there is a lot of light. :)
